Tim's One Photograph a Day

One of a trio!

Three generations of Wolverhampton’s main postal facility are visible in this photograph! You can just make out the current one (since November 2013) on the left, with the socially distanced queue (a sign of the times) outside! Opposite, by the white van, is the pillar box outside the previous 1960s carbuncle. But, built in 1895 and now Grade II Listed, the former Wolverhampton Main Post Office stands sadly empty.

It was refurbished after closure and was used as offices and teaching rooms, although appears to have become unused and neglected since 2007. The 1960s effort has been Compulsorily Purchased by the Council. It is scheduled for demolition to be replaced by a new arts building for the adjacent theatre (subject of a future photograph!). However, after the current pandemic, this may, of course, all change.
