Tim's One Photograph a Day

More recently the Planet Nightclub.

The Electric Theatre was the first in Wolverhampton, but not far off its heels the next opened on 14 March 1910 – less than two months later. It was a conversion – previously it had been the Odd-works factory. It lasted for just over fifty years, finally closing its doors on 9 July 1960, after which it became the Planet Nightclub. Walking past the rear gave me the clue and a little research revealed the origins as the Olympia Cinema.

The front does not offer any real clues as to its history, and it wasn’t until I found an old photograph that I could confirm I had got the correct building. Interestingly, the front hasn’t really changed much from its cinematic heyday!
