Tim's One Photograph a Day

The Electric Theatre, the First Cinema in Wolverhampton.

The Former Electric Theatre, Wolverhampton

Another historic building in Queen Square.

Continuing my quest to locate former cinemas in Wolverhampton, this building was the first ever in the City. Opening in 1910, it just predates the adjacent ornate NatWest Bank featured previously. It is also very close to the now demolished Queens Cinema, which was just a little way to the right of this shot. Prior to the opening of the Electric Theatre, film was not particularly popular in Wolverhampton

Although the building remains, there appears to be little information about its life as a cinema. It later became a menswear showroom, but is now the SBI Bank.
