Norton Canes Statue at the Service Station.

Statue on the Site of the Norton Canes Services Station.

Today’s photo is of a statue/artwork at the Norton Canes Service Station on the M6 Toll.

A bizarre piece of work, with no clue at to what it is supposed to represent, or why it is there. This Norton Canes Statue is mounted fairly high up on a hill to the side of the service station. It makes a reasonable subject for a photograph.

Opened in 2004, the service station itself was unusual in that it originally had a separate car park for local traffic. However, lack of use saw this facility removed by 2010. It is owned by Roadchef, but operated under lease by Midland Expressway Ltd under a 25 year lease, due to expire in 2029.

hi there, this is a polished stainless steel memorial sculpture for the Midlands Air Ambulance 25th anniversary. i helped to build it for the Sculptor Richard Thornton. its supposed to resemble a sort of cockpit shape with the landing skies mounted on a tripod then the Hear beat monitor beep through the centre like the logo for air ambulance. hope this helps

      Hi Adam –

Thank you for taking the time to respond, and for the information. Nice to know what the sculpture is for. Shame there isn’t some sort of plaque near it to explain.
