Jacobs Butchers, The Square, Alvechurch

Beautiful old Black-and-White building.

So many villages across the country have lost their character. Many have lost their local shops as well. Not so Alvechurch. Although, sadly, the Post Office has recently succumbed, there are a number of small shops still surviving. There is also a lot of character in the buildings – many, like this, are Black & White, as can be seen in my previous night-time shot. Very unusually, Jacobs Butchers is one of two such establishments in a relatively small village. The other one, C Fern, is in a more modern building. Last time we were here, this one was E J Crow & Son – as can be seen in the “established by” quoted on the sign above the door. The shot was taken more for the building, but I must confess I had to avail myself of some of the wonderful looking produce on display!
