Darlington Street Methodist Church, Wolverhampton

An uncertain future.

Wolverhampton has its fair share of grand buildings, and this one is no exception. Unsurprisingly Grade II Listed, it stands on the corner of Darlington Street and School Street. Previously, as can be seen in the older photograph below, it was the first of many buildings continuing down towards the roundabout and ring road. But now, Darlington Street Methodist Church stands alone and empty.

Sadly, it is estimated that between £3m and £5m is required to restore this fine building. It is currently up for sale. Opened in 1901, it replaced a previous fairly grand church dating back to 1825. It held its final service on 29 September 2019.
