Zig Zag Weir.

Creating a Waterfall Effect.

Today’s photograph is of the Zig Zag Weir on the River Kennet. This is just downstream of the Fobney Island Nature Reserve.

This is an overflow route from the navigable river. The water feeds into the Nature Reserve. The design is such that it aerates the water as it flows.

Oxygenation of the water before it passes through the wetlands is the main aim. This will enhance the life supporting nature of the water downstream.

The shot has been taken looking across the weir. A slow exposure has been used, to soften the water and create an impression of movement.

I have used monochrome to create a steely feel. Close cropping adds to the feel of the size of the structure, and the power of the water flow.
