Tracks to nowhere at present.

This is part of the new extension of the Midlands Metro from a junction just short of the current terminus at St George’s (for the City Centre) to the railway station. The BR logo in the distance is on the tower of the car park. This section of road is currently only for construction traffic. A new station building is under construction and, until that is completed, these Tram Lines will remain unused.

It is interesting that there are no overhead wires. Much was made of the battery operated section recently opened in Birmingham. The lack of any information regarding this section, and the fact that there are poles nearer the junction which look suitable for supporting wiring suggests that this will be wired as normal in due course. The Sunbeam pub, within what is known as the “i10” building, is named after the famous local vehicle manufacturer who as well as cars manufactured many trolley buses that operated across the UK and worldwide.
