Mooring in Tividale Quays / Dudley Port Basin.

Tividale Quays / Dudley Port Basin

Beautiful mooring spot.

Historically, this was Dudley Port Basin. An industrial area, where working boats would have been loaded and unloaded. In the heart of the Birmingham Canal Navigations on the Old Main Line, this fell into disuse as the industries closed. However, in the 1990s, the area was redeveloped with this housing estate surrounding the old basin, which has been restored and given the name Tividale Quays, after the area in which it is located.

Despite it being a lovely area, as can be seen in the photograph, it is sadly underused by boats, which generally just cruise past. Some come in to look, but don’t stay. They are missing a treat, as this is one of the best moorings on the BCN. We often stop when in the area and, much to our surprise and pleasure, tonight we are sharing with another boat.

Sorry to correct you but, the basin at Tividale Quays is a new built basin built in the late 1990’s as part of the new housing development. Prior to this there was no basin there, never had been, the land was just industrial land occupied by factories etc.

Hi Malcolm – Thanks for your comment. I was sure when I researched this at the time that there had been an original basin at this location, although possibly somewhat smaller than what is there now. Unfortunately, I now can’t find anything on the history of this spot!
