Banbury Canal Scene.
This is the view under the Tom Rolt Bridge, looking towards the lock featured in an earlier photograph. Almost like a High Street, this Banbury Canal scene is right by the shops.
Historically, this would have been an area largely ignored by the town. A route where the freight came and went. Certainly not an area deemed to be attractive to the town.
Now, of course, canalside properties can attract a premium. Drawing the shopping centre to this area enhances its desirability. Once a year, this area plays host to Banbury Canal Day.
Unlike in Reading, the canal has been fully encompassed. Mooring is provided, enabling passing boaters to enjoy a couple of days right in the centre. There are moorings slightly further afield as well, making this a popular stop.
Today’s photograph has been given a bit of HDR treatment. This just lifts the photograph into something just a little bit more art like, and makes the most of the skyline.
