Winter Cruising: A cold and frosty morning.

A cold and frosty morning.

“Is it cold in winter” is a question we are often asked. Not with the fire going, it isn’t! We love winter cruising – the air is fresh, the grass is crisp. On a day like today, there is nothing better.Sadly, we weren’t going anywhere today. The nearest I got was an early walk along the towpath to exercise the dog. And take photographs, of course. This is taken looking towards Hillmorton Top Lock.

The moored boat is in a delightful location – enjoying all the sunshine with a view. However, this is a short pound (length of canal between two locks), and it is not unheard of for it to empty overnight. You can wake up at a bit of an angle!

There is a hire boat cruising down to its second lock of the day. The outside temperature at this point was about 2 degrees, so pretty chilly. But, this is what is so nice about winter cruising. With the bare trees, you get such a different view, and the sunshine is just amazing.
