Lawrence of Arabia’s House.
Blue plaques on buildings have their uses! Otherwise, I would not have known this used to be Lawrence of Arabia’s House. I spotted this whilst out walking this evening.
It is a very large, semi-detached house in Polstead Road, Oxford. In fact, it was the family home that he lived in with his parents, from 1896-1921.
His Father, Sir Thomas, had left his wife and set up home with Sarah Junner, a governess. Although they called themselves Mr & Mrs Lawrence, they were not married. They had 5 sons together, moving here after having moved around a number of different places.
He went on to study in Oxford, gaining a First in History. He was subsequently elected to a 7-year research fellowship at All Souls College.
