Father and Son First Time Meeting.
Today was a very special day. Not only were we taking Guide Dog Oakley for a freerun, it was to be with several other Guide Dogs. Including meeting his Dad for the first time. There was only really one photograph to use today. A shot of Father and Son posing together.
I didn’t stand much of a chance of getting an early photograph. They were all running around like lunatics! Guide Dogs seem to instinctively know each other. Even if they have never met before. There is just some sort of special chemistry.
Oakley (my wife’s Guide Dog), on the left in the picture, has met his mother and one of his siblings in the past. They definitely recognised each other as, obviously, they had grown up together for the first few weeks.
It is difficult to know if he recognised Dixon (on the right) as his Dad. Father and Son they may be, but this is the first time they have actually met.
Getting a decent photograph was quite a challenge. Play was the main thing they were interested in. Even at just over 9 years old, Dixon still had a fair amount of energy! However, towards the end I managed to get them to sit. With a bit of help (treats were involved), we got them to stay still long enough to get a decent photograph of Father and Son together.
