Thatcham Station: Freight Train at Dusk.

Freight Train at Dusk.

I was hoping for something more illuminated than a freight train for this shot of Thatcham Station at dusk! I had arrived a little late, and the blue light was fading.

Of course, I had just missed an express train going through, which would have given a more interesting light trail. However, positioned at the top of the footbridge, I had a good location.

A couple of test shots allowed me to align the shot. Initially, I included part of the footbridge, but decided a closer focus on Thatcham Station was preferable.

I wanted the aperture to be as small as possible. However, I also needed to balance this with an exposure that wasn’t too long. If it was, the danger would be that the train light trails would be too dark. I decided 10 seconds would be preferable.

Normally I would use an ISO of 100, but this meant a wider aperture than I wanted. I have therefore compromised by increasing the ISO one step, so I could reduce the aperture similarly.
