“Old Father Thames” sweeps across the north of Reading, separating it from its neighbour, Caversham. In the distance, Caversham Island is one of many small islands or eyots.

Reading is also famous as the junction with the Kennet & Avon Canal. This strikes off as the River Kennet just out of sight in the distance, cutting through the centre of Reading towards Bath and Bristol.

The River Thames is popular with tourists and leisure cruisers. The two boats in the foreground are part of the Salters Steamers fleet – a company which dates back to 1858.

Looking slightly bleak today, this area is a haven for visitors and locals alike wishing to enjoy the pleasures of walking by or cruising on the River Thames.
