Cormorants: Tree with a View!

Tree with a View!

They say the two key factors in wildlife photography are luck and patience. I was definitely lucky with this shot of two cormorants in the tree tops.

As I have mentioned before, although I enjoy wildlife photography, it is not really my speciality. Not least because I don’t have the patience! However, today I struck lucky as we were cruising along the Thames.

Having already taken a few photographs along the way, I had decided the long telephoto lens was the most useful. Leaving this attached to the camera minimised the need to swap lenses. I had already been lucky photographing herons along the way. Today I actually had a choice.

This one amused me. The one on the left appears to be calling out, attracting the attention of its mate. It could even be the one on the left is laughing!

Being high up in the trees, there was plenty of light. The lack of foliage also made these cormorants quite easy to photograph. With a very fast shutter speed and small aperture, this made it easier to get the whole thing in focus.
