Tim's One Photograph a Day

Northbrook Street – Main Shopping Street in Newbury.

Northbrook Street: Once the Main Road through Newbury.

Once the Main Road through Newbury.

Northbrook Street was once the main road to/from Winchester and Oxford. See the former A339 blog. During the day, this road is now pedestrianised.

This was a challenging shot to take. The camera was on the bridge over the canal, which is single track, and traffic light controlled. Therefore, traffic is only flowing in one direction at a time.

To get the light trails in both directions, I had to wait until there was a reasonable amount of traffic heading north (the direction the camera is facing). Then get the timing right so that the waiting traffic facing the camera moves during the exposure!

One bonus, which I had not noticed until I viewed the final image on the computer, was the group that had congregated outside Costa on Northbrook Street. They have produced a nice little cameo – either having arrived and stopped during the shot, or had been standing there and then moved off. Either way, the create a nice little point of interest and some extra movement.
