Tim's One Photograph a Day

LV Heart, County Gates Gyratory.

The LV Heart.

LV Heart.

The Heart of Westbourne.

Night photography is my passion, and this is another shot I’ve been wanting to get. Being a Sunday night, there was not too much traffic – but just enough to create interest with the light trails. Too many light trails would detract from the main focus point.

LV is the shortened form of Liverpool Victoria, whose head office is based here in Westbourne. Technically, though, this isn’t Westbourne, as it is just over the border in Poole. To the left of this photograph is the border, which was also the County boundary when Bournemouth was in Hampshire and Poole Dorset. Now, of course, both are Dorset, but the legend County Gates continues.

In the middle of this roundabout/gyratory system is Frizzell House, the former home of Frizzell Insurance now owned by LV. The green heart is part of their advertising. The one-way arrow seems to point to it. There is an interesting shadow cast on the heart by the junction lighting.

As can be seen by the traffic light in the photo, in the 30 second exposure, the lights went through a complette sequence!
