River Kennet: A Study of some moored Narrowboats.

A Study of some moored Narrowboats.

Living on a narrowboat gives the opportunity to get some unique shots. Like this one of the River Kennet. Taken from the bow of our boat.

We are moored, breasted up alongside another boat. This shot was taken off the water-side of the bow deck. The Olympus camera has an adjustable screen on the back, so I could hold the camera almost at water level, but still see the shot I was about to take!

Getting the camera down low gives an unusual perspective. I have a rather high ISO. This was by accident, as I forgot to adjust it back down before taking this shot.

I captured a number of images at slightly different angles and focal lengths. Because I didn’t intend using this one (I thought the longer telephoto shots looked better on the camera) I didn’t retake it!

However, this shot of the River Kennet had the best balance. The lighting was a bit harsh, as I was looking towards the sun. I have therefore given the image some HDR treatment, creating something of a more painting-like flavour. I quite like this style, and may use it more often in future.
