West Highland Railway – Glenfinnan Viaduct.
Famous Viaduct on a Famous Line!
We have been on the Jacobite Steam Train ride from Fort William to Mallaig and back. I have rather a lot of photographs to choose from! However, one of Glenfinnan Viaduct has to take pride of place!
The West Highland railway is regarded as one of the most the most scenic and favourite railways journeys in the world. It is not difficult to see why. The views are just extraordinary.
It is also extremely remote. It boasts some of the smallest stations in Britain. Civilisation seems miles away for most of the route. It almost feels like a mountain railway!
Quite apart from the views of mountains and lochs, the man made Glenfinnan Viaduct is one of the wonders of this line. There is something special about a railway viaduct. There are many across the network that are the subject of plenty of photographs. Add in a steam train, and all the ingredients are there for a classic photograph.
This one, of course, has gained notoriety for featuring in the Harry Potter movies, along with the “Hogwarts Express”. It was tempting to photoshop a flying Ford Anglia into this image!
The shot was taken looking out of the window – getting a face full of soot in the process! A bit of HDR treatment to enhance the view completes the atmosphere.
