Tim's One Photograph a Day

Ducklings: Swimming amongst the debris.

Swimming amongst the debris.

I thought I had today’s photograph sussed. There was a brass band playing in the bandstand. I did get a couple of photographs, but because the bandstand is raised, they weren’t particularly good.

However, I then spotted these ducklings swimming between the boats on the canal. Actually, as I think I’ve mentioned before, this section is river. Therefore, there is a flow.

When boats moor up, they create an obstacle to the flow. All the bits and pieces that float along get caught up. Leaves, twigs, petals – you name it! However, this obviously created interest for them. No doubt a veritable feast can be found contained within.

Being as this was towards the end of the day, the light was low. With the subject also between two boats, and with the ducklings swimming fairly fast, a high ISO and flash was required.
