We had decided it was time to move our narrowboat. We cruised from our mooring on the park, and went to fill up with water.

We turned back onto the Kennet & Avon Canal. Shortly going under Monkey Bridge, we had moored boats either side. Down to tickover, but this give a great opportunity to take photographs.

Previously, I would have used the Canon for shots like this. However, it’s a bit unwieldy – especially when you are supposed to be steering the boat at the same time! This is where again the Olympus comes into its own.

The tilting screen on the rear means that you can hold the camera high, but still see what you are about to take. I held the camera aloft, zoomed in, and took the picture.

Whilst editing the photograph, I decided that it looked better in black and white. I have given it some HDR treatment in the NIK Collection. This makes the view from the narrowboat look almost like an old-fashioned linocut picture.
