Christmas Big Wheel, Bournemouth.

Looking up the Big Wheel, Bournemouth Pier Approach

Another cold, frosty morning with clear blue sky. A walk into town, armed with camera, along the cliff top. A little misty out to sea – no real interest there. Onto the beach to get a couple of photos of the pier, and another looking underneath along the shoreline.

Back on the the promenade and the Pier Approach. When I was growing up in Bournemouth, this was road, with bus stops and parking. To the east was the Swimming Baths, where the “Aqua Show” took place every Christmas. It was a sort of water-based pantomime. Great fun, and a big attraction. Sadly demolished when the BIC opened, with its own modern leisure pool (with wave machine). That pool is also confined to history, as is the IMAX Cinema that replaced the old baths. So much for progress.

However, one positive development is the overpass that take the road over the pedestrianised plaza between the Pier and the Lower Gardens. Normally, there is a children’s roundabout here – at one point there was also a simulator ride as well. Over Christmas, the roundabout has gone; replaced by this Big Wheel. Not that big, but still quite an attraction. My eye was caught by the strong lines glinting in the sunlight.

I stood at the bottom, pointed the camera up, and framed the supports.

Love this . Hate the BIC. Bournemouth has a few memories for me that I will never forget.
    I’ll share them sometime…….
