A remarkable moated manor house.

Today we decided to make use of our National Trust membership. Near to where we are moored in Lapworth is Baddesley Clinton Manor House.Like many manor houses, this has seen many changes and alterations over the years. It is of note as having been a “safe house” for Catholic Priests after the reformation. As such, it has a number of hiding places – included a sewer! It was referred in the recent BBC drama “Gunpowder”, although the filming was actually of Fountains Hall, near Ripon.

Baddesley Clinton is a Grade I Listed Building. The original house was built in the early 1400s. Much of the current building dates back to 1526.
