Tim's One Photograph a Day

A Field of Rape.

Rape: Golden Yellow Fields.

Golden Yellow Fields.

Driving through the West Berkshire countryside every morning, I get to see these wonderful rape fields. This is the changing face of England. I don’t remember this crop being particularly prominent when I was growing up.

As this field is near East Ilsley, it was a special visit to take this photo. In the morning, I am driving a double-decker bus, so not easy to park to take photographs!

Conscious that some of the other fields were losing their colour, I was keen to get up here today. This seems to be the last field of rape still with its vivid yellow colour.

The hint of sunshine has given a good light. The clouds give some interest to the sky, although a bit more blue would have been nice! I have framed the shot with the trees. I feel this creates a pleasing balance with the field sloping gently towards the trees, making more of a feature of the sky.
